Betty Jean (Wilson) McCord

Betty Jean (Wilson) McCord of Great Bend, Kan., peacefully went to be with her heavenly father on March 22, 2024, with family by her bedside. Betty was born on Nov. 18, 1950, in St. John, Kan., daughter of Elvis and Virginia (Cubbage) Wilson Fox.

Betty graduated from Larned High School in 1968. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Emporia State University in 1972. On Dec. 20, 1979, she married the love of her life, Vernon McCord, who preceded her in death in Feb. of 2012.

Betty truly enjoyed her work. She was an office manager for several businesses throughout her lifetime to include Eakin Construction, Larned, Kan.; C.V. Cale Co., and M& F Plumbing both in Great Bend. She retired in 2011.

Betty was kind, loving, generous, patient, courageous and strong. She faced many issues with her health throughout her life, but she always kept a positive attitude and battled on ferverently. She and her husband enjoyed flipping houses and doing many projects around home or for others. They often would play cards with family and friends and travelled to many places. Betty enjoyed reading, mind puzzles, old Western movies, and HGTV. Her greatest joy was her family and never missed a chance to tell others all about them.

Betty is survived by her mother, Virginia Wilson-Fox of Hays, Kan.; her children Andrea “Andie” Trevino (Jessie) of Great Bend, Kan., Jeff McCord (Ashlee) of Topeka, Kan.; her siblings, Judy Gladow of Manhattan, Kan. and Linda Reichert (Thomas) of Hays, Kan.; her Grandchildren Mackenzie McCord (Erik), Ezra McCord, Kalea McCord, Jayla McCord, Timothy McCord, Cooper Trevino (Alexis), Tucker Trevino (Mia), Letecia Tracy (Abraham), Jordan Trevino (Erika), Mikal Trevino (Shauzy), Mercedes Trevino, and Jessie Trevino, Jr.; 15 great grandchildren, with one on the way; one great-great grandchild; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Vernon McCord; her father Elvis Wilson; step-father Raymond Fox; grandparents Oscar and Goldie Wilson, Ralph and Beulah Cubbage.

Celebration of Life will be held at 5010 8th Street, Great Bend, at 3 p.m., Saturday May 11, 2024. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
