GBPD-patch-2016

A rifle and handgun that were reportedly stolen last week have been recovered, Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark reports.

On Friday, April 12, Great Bend Police officers were dispatched to a residence located on Broadway Avenue in reference to a burglary of a vehicle, Haulmark stated in a news release. It was reported that a Ruger .308 rifle, a Canik Combat 9 mm handgun, and several hunting equipment items were stolen from inside of the vehicle.

On Tuesday, April 16, with assistance from Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir, Great Bend Police detectives received information of the possible location of the Ruger .308 rifle. During the investigation, GBPD detectives located one juvenile suspect involved in the incident. The Ruger .308 rifle was recovered at that time at a residence in Great Bend and an arrest was made of a 15-year-old male.

After further investigation, GBPD detectives were able to identify a second suspect to be in possession of the Canik Combat 9 mm handgun, and his location was confirmed in Wichita Falls, Texas. Detectives contacted members of the Wichita Falls Police Department to assist in locating the suspect and the handgun. With their assistance, the handgun was recovered, however, the suspect was not present at the time of the recovery of the handgun.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information in reference to these police cases is urged to contact the Great Bend Police Department at 620-793-4120 or Crime Stoppers at 620-792-1300 or online at P3tips.com.
