Arsenius and Rosalie Urban, of Seward, will celebrate their 50th anniversary this weekend.
Arsenius Urban and Rosalie Richmeier were united in marriage on Feb. 20, 1960, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Great Bend. The couple has four children, Wayne and LuAnn Urban, their daughters, Angela Urban and fiancee Dan Kerns, and Daphne Urban, of St. Joseph, Mo.; Bryan and Joyce Urban and their daughters, Dayna and Allison Urban and son Kyler Urban, of Wichita; daughter Denise and Dr. Charlie Joslin and son Peter Joslin, niece and nephew, Sam and Gray Brand, all of Ellinwood; and son Daryle and Shelly Urban, and sons Scott and Sean Urban, of Ozawkie.
Arsenius is retired from Roto Mix in Hoisington after 15 years of service. Rosalie is retired from Larned Juvenile Correctional Facility after 12 years of service.
The couple will have a family celebration in Branson, Mo., later this year.

Bertha was employed at Town and Country Super Market for 26 years, before retiring in 1999.

Nicolette Suzanne Pierson and James Paul Richardson were united in marriage on Nov. 7 at the historic Chief Hosa Lodge near Denver, Colo. The bride is the daughter of John Eric Pierson and Judith Ann Beggs. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas Pierson and the late Mr. and Mrs. Philip Hamilton Beggs. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kenneth Richardson of Litchfield, Ariz. He is the grandson of the late Mr. Delmar Lawrence Richardson and Mrs. Ruth Cecelia Soellinger Richardson and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Edgar DeBrular.
The wedding was based on the customs of country weddings in the olden days. Joined by their parents, the bride and groom conducted their own marriage ceremony. Relatives and friends gathered from all over the country and from abroad. The vows were moving and heart-warming.
The bride is a grant writer and artist.
The groom is a contractor.
The couple will reside near Grand Junction, Colo. They plan a honeymoon to Peru in the spring of 2010.

Baum 60th anniversary
Leo and Loretta Baum will celebrate their 60th anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Hoisington American Legion. They request no gifts. Their children have blessed them with 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Leo Baum and Loretta Cronn were married on Dec 12, 1949, in Russell. The beginning of their life together found them living and raising their family in Paradise in northern Russell County. They moved to Hoisington in 1970 when Leo began working at the helium plant in Otis. Leo then spent many many years in the oilfield working for Red Tiger and Mohawk Petroleum. Upon his retirement from the oilfield, Leo worked as the night supervisor at Great Bend Feeding. Loretta worked for 20 years at Fuller Brush in Great Bend and retired from their employ in 1992. She has also worked for Clara Barton Hospital and Anne's Accents in Hoisington. The couple is active in the Church of the Nazarene in Hoisington. They enjoy spending time with friends and family, visiting and playing games.

Turnbull 50th
Jim and Judy Turnbull celebrated their 50th anniversary in Estes Park, Colo., with their daughter Stacey Keas and son-in-law Doug, granddaughter Amy and grandson Jared. They have another grandson, Seth, who is a junior at Kansas State University.
The couple was married on Aug. 29, 1959, in Great Bend. They lived in several states due to Jim’s job with J.C. Penney. They eventually bought a department store in Minnesota which they owned for several years. The ymoved back to Kansas in 1984 when Jim took a job as CEO of the Plainville Hospital. They eventually moved to Hoisington, where he was the CEO of Clara Barton Hospital. He is on his 11th interim as CEO of a hospital since his retirement seven years ago. Judy has worked in insurance, interior decorating and most recently as a part-time librarian at the Hoisington Public Library.

Phil and Carol Woodmansee recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with a family reunion in Estes Park, Colo. Also attending were Carol’s brother Bruce Engle and his wife Carole from Jackson, Calif. Unable to attend were two grandchildren, Kathrine Alee and her husband Paul and their daughter Charity of Depew, Okla. and Thomas Chaline and fianceé Jessa Murphy and their daughter MacKenzie of Wamego.
Phil and Carol were married on Aug. 23, 1959, at the Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. Between graduation from Kansas State University and retirement, they were teachers/librarians in the Great Bend school system. Since retirement, they have enjoyed traveling with family and friends, the Presbyterian Church family, and baby-sitting their grandson Murphy. Phil enjoys golf, fishing and woodcarving and Carol enjoys volunteering, reading and flower gardening.

After five years, he began his career as a hospital accountant for Central Kansas Medical Center. Upon retiring in 1988, he formed his own business and is now retired from hospital accounting. The retired couple enjoys visiting with their children and grandchildren, Julie and Scott Foster, Garrett, Holly and Bailey all from Hutchinson; Kurt and Kim Williams, Trevor and Jack of Hoisington; and Karl and Cindy Williams of Athens, Tenn. Dr. Bill and Mary King celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 20 with a trip to Branson, Mo., with their family. A family dinner and family games were hosted by their children, Carolee Hoffman and husband Scott, and Dr. Russell King and wife Susan, all of the Kansas City area, Pamela Tracy and husband Kenny of Great Bend, and Dr. Roberta King and husband Louis of Narraganset, R.I. An Alaskan cruise is planned in August with medical school classmates that were married on the same day.
Bill King and Mary Miller were married in Lawrence on June 28, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Bill practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Great Bend for 30 years and Mary was receptionist as well as a member of the USD 428 Board of Education for 14 years. They have six grandchildren.

LeRoy and Jean Smith, of rural Hoisington, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a week-long camping trip to Lake Wilson.
LeRoy Smith and Jean Johnson were united in marriage on June 5, 1944, at the First Methodist Church in Hoisington. During World War II, LeRoy worked at Beech Air Craft in Wichita, returning to Hoisington in 1945 where he worked for Gieman Appliance for 18 years. In 1963 the couple opened their own appliance business, "Smith Appliance Center", which they operated until retirement.

Gilbert and Kathleen Rajewski were married on June 14, 1949, at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Vincent. Kathleen attended grade school at Vincent and Gilbert in Victoria. They met at Victoria High School. Gilbert farmed with his folks, and then he started working in the oil field. After their marriage, he worked at the Farmers Store in Victoria as the creamery tester and later in Salina as the production manager for Royal Crown Cola. In 1953, they moved to Hays and Gil went back to the oil patch. In 1955 they moved to Great Bend where he worked for Davis Mud & Chemical for 34 years before retiring in 1994. Kathleen has been a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She’s kept busy with sewing, quilting and working on the genealogy of eight different families.

They moved back to Great Bend, where he is a practicing attorney at Keenan and Boeckman Attorneys at Law, PA. Eileen continues to be a registered nurse. They enjoy spending time in Kansas City with their children and grandchild. He recently retired from Lorraine State Bank. Oleta has worked at Central Kansas Medical Center as a medical transcriptionist and is now employed by USA Gymnastics.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Morgenstern of Great Bend celebrated their 70th anniversary on Dec. 25. Martin and Wilma were married Christmas evening at the Methodist Church in Otis in 1938. Martin served in the Armed Forces during World War II from 1942 to 1945. The Morgensterns moved to Great Bend shortly after the Hoisington tornado in 2001.

Roy Doonan and JoAn Herrenbruck were married on Dec. 28, 1968, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Seward. They have lived in Garden City, Hutchinson and Great Bend. JoAn taught school in Garden City, and was a substitute teacher in Hutchinson and Great Bend. Roy has worked in finance and lending their entire marriage, currently managing the Credit Union of America branch in Great Bend.

James and Bettie Nebergall will celebrate their 60th anniversary on June 4 in a celebration Mass at St. George Catholic Church in St. George, Utah.
Mr. Nebergall was employed as a history teacher and basketball coach at Great Bend High School. Mrs. Nebergall began her career as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse and later worked in the Great Bend school system, teaching advanced English. They now live in St. George, Utah. They met at Northeastern Oklahoma College in Miami and completed their college studies at Panhandle A and M. They moved to Great Bend in 1971. Rick is sales manager for Dove Buick and Cadillac agency and Derinda is a retired extension agent for family and consumer science for Barton County.

Leonard D. Sharp and Virginia Lenora Lonnon were united in marriage on March 13, 1948, at Baker Avenue Baptist Church in Great Bend, now the Central Baptist Church. The have been residents of Great Bend their entire married life. The couple is now retired from farming in Barton and Stafford counties. They operated a 64,000-caged layer poultry facility from 1980 to 2002 and now have a 2,000-swine finishing barn managed by their son. They were rural motor route carriers for The Hutchinson News from 2003 to 2006. Mrs. Sharp was the home ec secretary at Barton County Extension Service prior to 1980.

Residents of Great Bend most of their married life, they owned DaMac Drilling, Inc. and affiliated companies, headquartered in Great Bend. The couple have four sons, David McKown of Great Bend and Maui, Hawaii, Bill McKown of Great Bend, Charles McKown of Arkansas City and James McKown of Kansas City; and seven grandchildren.
