Laurene Elizabeth Marvin

LA CROSSE — Laurene Elizabeth Marvin, 89, died March 1 at Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom. Born March 16, 1921 in Ransom, she was the daughter of Mathias Frederick and Mary Margaret (Roths) Friess. A resident of Ransom for the past 14 months, coming from La Crosse where she had lived since 1961. She was a homemaker. On Dec. 6, 1947 she married E. Leon Marvin in Wichita. He died April 10, 2004.

Mrs. Marvin was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in La Crosse and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3147, both in La Crosse, American Legion Auxiliary #173 in Hays, and VFW Cooties Auxiliary PT 7. She was a Cub Scout Leader and a 4-H leader.

Survivors include five sons, Gerald Marvin of La Crosse and Verle Marvin and wife Diana of La Crosse, Dennis Marvin of Concordia, Gayle Marvin and wife Cecelia of South Berwick, Me., Merle Marvin and wife Deanna of Holdrege, Neb.; two daughters, Nancy Donnell of Saginaw, Texas and Susan Sharp and husband Gerry of Mankato; eight brothers, Elmer Friess, Lewis Friess and wife Angie, Don Friess and wife Nancy, Warren Friess, Harold Friess and wife Karen, Fred Friess and wife Jeanne, Dan Friess and wife Rita, and Maurice Friess and wife Debbie; six sisters, Sister Janice Friess, Anna Mae Ferguson and husband Jim, Mary Frances Flax, Rosella McLain, Janice Hornung and husband Ron Hornung, and Catherine Ator and husband Bob; sister-in-law Beverly Friess; 16 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mathias Frederick and Mary Margaret (Roths) Friess; her husband E. Leon Marvin; a granddaughter Paula Marie Donnell; a grandson, Richard Jacob; three brothers, Eugene Friess, Cletus Friess and Bernard Friess; and a sister, Marjorie Flax.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on March 4 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in La Crosse with Father Rene Labrador officiating. Burial was at the La Crosse City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Michael’s Catholic Church in La Crosse, Rhode Island Suites in Ransom or the donor’s choice.
