POSTED December 11, 2017 11:59 p.m.
A 12-year-old photo of a young boy sitting on Santa’s lap has gone viral … again.

The photo gained attention because it showed the boy, who appears a bit anxious over meeting Santa Claus, using sign language to spell out “help” to his parents, according to, an NBC News affiliate.

"We taught our baby sign language. This is the sign for 'help.' You're welcome," the boy’s mother, Kerry Spencer, tweeted with the photo.

Spencer shares the photo around Christmastime every year. But this year, the photo received extra attention after Kerry Spencer’s friend, author Mette Harrison, tweeted the photo. It now has more than 6,000 retweets and 25,000 likes.

The tweet made headlines on Mashable and Huffington Post.

Spencer’s son, Samuel Spencer, is now 13 years old, but he was 1 at the time the photo was snapped.

"We all laugh at the photo now," Spencer said, according to Mashable. "Posting it is one of our favorite family traditions."

The family now lives in Parkton, Maryland.

This year, Spencer clarified that her son signed for help using ASL.

Sam, the son, also tweeted that he still likes the photo.

Other people responded with their own tweets.
