SALT LAKE CITY — It was a tough loss. The game between the returning MVP and the underdog team had some hotly contested plays. Tensions ran high. But we’re not talking about this year’s Super Bowl. It’s Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XIV that took place Sunday in a Manhattan studio.

"It’s basically drag a chew toy into the end zone," said referee Dan Schachner about the rules in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning. "It doesn't matter which end zone. You can play for the other team. We don't care.”

Ninety pups played in this year’s 14th season of Puppy Bowl, according to ET online. Many of the players came from rescue shelters across the country, including one pup who was found on the streets in Mexico.

In an interview with People.com, Schachner said some of the pups are special needs dogs and some were saved from natural disasters.

Schachner told CBS Sunday Morning that dogs in the Puppy Bowl have a 100 percent adoption rate.

Check out Team Ruff vs. Team Fluff, where penalties of “intentional growling,” “unsportsdog-like conduct” and “kissing up to the ref” are celebrated.
