Kansas Highway Patrol A Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Derek James Varner, 20, of Russell, was eastbound on Interstate 70 in Ellis County, 8.4 miles east of Hays, at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday and swerved to miss an animal in the roadway. The car went off the road and into the ditch, then struck a barbed wire fence. The driver was not injured, but passenger Krysal Ann Varner, 19, of Hays was taken to Hays ...
