JUNCTION CITY — The Barton Community College men’s golf team finished in sixth place at the fourth Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference meet last Sunday at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Junction City.
The Cougars shot a 645 during the wet, cold day, finishing 12 strokes from fifth. Dodge City won the event with a 588.
BCC’s Travis Kleweno missed the top 10 with a 13th-place effort. He shot a 12-over par 156 for the 36 holes. Barton will step outside conference play April 4-5 when its travels to McPherson to take part in the Central Christian Invitational at Turkey Creek Golf Course.
Barton shot a 327 on the opening 18 holes and finishing out with a 318.
Dodge City was the only team to break 300 for either round, shooting a 292 and 296 for its 26-stroke win over second place Hutch, which shot at 614.
Barton was 12 strokes from fifth-place Independence, which shot a 633 in the nine-team event.
Barton’s Timothy Spare finished 25th with an 81-81—162. Tanner Berning shot a 172 and Aaron Spare a 174 to round out the Cougars scoring.
The Cougars currently sit fifth overall in the standings, having finished fifth or sixth at all four meets so far. Kleweno is tied for 12th individually still very much in range on finishing in the top 10 with two more events to go.
