Theodore L. (Ted) McCoy 1935 - 2011

ROCHESTER, ILL. — Theodore L (Ted) McCoy, 76, of Rochester, Ill., died , July 13, in Rochester, Ill. Born in Marion, July 9, 1935, he was the son of Russell W. and Arian Brigham McCoy. He attended Fort Hays State University. A member of Alpha Epsilon Rho, national honorary radio-TV fraternity, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University in 1958. On Dec. 23, 1961, he married Colleen Cluster in Great Bend. His 45 year career in radio and TV included stints in Kansas, New Mexico, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Springfield, Ill. included 15 years at WTAX Radio and 15 years at WRSP Fox TV. His career ended in 2001 when he became legally blind.

Mr. McCoy was 1966-67 Jaycee of the year in Great Bend, past president of the Springfield, Ill. Ad Club, past president of Rochester Ill. Public Library District Board of Trustees, and past president of Rochester Lions Club where he was designated Lion of the year three times. He was Rochester Citizen of the Year in 1999. He was a former member of the Rochester Village Zoning Board, and was recipient of the American Advertising Federation Silver Medal award, as presented by the Central Illinois Advertising Association, and former trustees chairman of the Rochester United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Colleen; two sons, Brigham, of Kansas City, Mo., and Gregory, of Springfield, Ill.; a brother, David of Topeka; and several cousins.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until time of Memorial Services at 7 p.m on Monday, at the Rochester United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jack Swank officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Audio Book Fund at Rochester Public Library. Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester is in charge of arrangements.
