Donation scam targeting Kans for Kids

HOISINGTON —Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation reports that an unidentified male has, over the past two weeks, been making phone calls to individuals seeking donations for Kans for Kids.

According to the organization, Kans for Kids is not currently soliciting donations via telephone. Director Debbie Reif said that two individuals have reported to her that they had received a call, and in one instance, multiple calls.

She said that this individual’s name shows up as unknown on caller ID. The calls have been received in Great Bend and Hoisington.

"He asks for a donation," said Reif. "A lot of these people prey on older people. We certainly hope to get it stopped. It’s unfortunate."

Kans for Kids is not holding currently holding a telephone drive.

"Don’t donate any money," to this individual, said Kenton Doze, Hoisington Police Chief. If anyone could get a phone number, it could be traced back to the individual who is doing this and shut down, he said.

Kans for Kids is a nonprofit organization that raises funds to help children Barton County who have cancer. The organization has been in existence since the mid-ninties.

The matter has been turned over to local law enforcement. Anyone receiving such a call is asked to report it to your local law enforcement office immediately.
