The U.S. Navy Band Country Current entertained a crowd of country-music fans Monday evening in the Barton Community College Fine Arts Auditorium. The concert was sponsored by the Great Bend Tribune and BCC.

The complimentary tickets "sold out," and a lively audience filled the auditorium with cheers and applause between songs. Many of the pieces performed Monday were originals created by Country Current, though many attendees could be found singing along to a few crowd-pleasing country hits.

County Current is the Navy’s premiere country-bluegrass ensemble. Under the direction of Senior Chief Musician Keith Arneson, Country Current is nationally renowned for its versatility and "eye-popping" musicianship. They perform a blend of modern country music and cutting-edge bluegrass.

Formed in 1973 by legendary banjoist Bill Emerson, the band boasts a rich legacy of notable alumni including Wayne Taylor, Jerry Gilmore and Frank Sollivan. They have performed at the Grand Ole Opry, for presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
