Lorna Rose Holmes 1959 - 2011

EL DORADO — After a short battle with cancer, Lorna Rose Holmes, 52, of El Dorado, went to be with her Lord, on Sept. 24 at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. Lorna was born on June 28, 1959, in Great Bend, the daughter of Keith and Lorraine Holmes. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1977, received a Bachelor of Science degree from Wichita State University, and her master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Emporia State University. Involved in teaching and education most of her career, she was a high school English teacher at Coffeyville and El Dorado. In addition, she was a transition coordinator and teacher of the visually impaired for the Butler County Special Education Co-op. She enjoyed reading, movies, baking and traveling.

Lorna was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa.

Survivors include her mother, Lorranie; a brother and his wife, Jon and Annie Holmes, of Wellington; two sisters and their husbands, Jan and Allan Milbradt, of Augusta and Christy and Roland Davis, of El Dorado; nieces and nephews Jake Milbradt, Delaney Milbradt, Joshua Holmes, Micah Holmes, Mason Holmes, Eliot Holmes, Barrett Voisin, Dex Voisin, Clay Voisin, Luke Davis, Michelle Davis, Kristi Davis, and Bryan Davis; many cousins; and her three cats, Simon, Shoe, and Sophie. She was preceded in death by her father Keith.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
