OTIS — Dylan Wissman of Otis-Bison High School had the type of game running backs dream about.
The first two times Wissman touched the football during Tuesday night’s Eight-Man Division-II playoff game against Moscow on the Cougars’ home field, he scored a touchdown.
A junior, Wissman simply outran everybody to the end zone for a 65-yard touchdown sprint on the game’s opening play from scrimmage for a 6-0 Cougars lead.
For an encore, Wissman ripped off a 45-yard TD bolt on the Cougars’ first play of their second possession, making it 14-0 after his conversion run just one minute, 46 seconds into the game.
Wissman kept running and running and in just one half, he etched himself into the Otis-Bison record books for a 300-yard game, totaling 314 yards in 16 carries as Otis-Bison annihilated Moscow 68-20. Wissman also had TD runs covering 50, 24 and 44 yards in simply taking over the game.
“The offensive line was really blocking for me well,” Wissman said. “You’ve got to play hard and just go 100 percent all of the time.”
The Cougars seem poised for another run to the title game for the second straight year. Their next game is Saturday afternoon at Victoria. Game time has not been disclosed.
“I think it’s a statement because our expectations are state,” Wissman said. “You start playing hard and you know you can’t stop running hard and you make it to the end zone. That’s what happens when you run hard.”
The game was called at halftime because of the 45-point mercy rule. The Cougars, leading 60-20, was able to end the game at the half after quarterback Trevor Keller threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Matt Crotinger.
Crotinger also had two interceptions, including one on the final play of the game. His other pick resulted in a 46-yard return for a score midway through the first quarter.
“I don’t know if we would call it a statement game,” Otis-Bison head coach Travis Starr said. “We just really wanted to come out and play hard.
“Our offensive line came out and played hard and Dylan ran hard through tackles.”
