City looks for board members

POSTED November 16, 2011 2:59 p.m.

It’s common to hear people suggest that only certain people are allowed to make decisions in communities, but there are some opportunities at the city level for anyone who is wanting to get involved in the city government.
Mayor Mike Allison has announced that there are openings being filled on city board and commissions and he’s encouraging members of the public to get involved.
To apply for one of the volunteer positions, a local resident need only stop by the city offices, 1209 Williams, and the application forms are available.
Allison reported that the Planning Commission currently has two members whose terms are expiring at the end of the year, and it has one vacancy that needs to be filled.
In addition, the Recreation Commission has a members whose term expires at the end of the year; and the Tree Board “continues to have a number of vacancies and residents are encouraged to apply,” according to information from the mayor.
Allison urged, these boards provide an opportunity for local residents to get experience in how the city government operates and to make decisions that will impact the future of the community.
For more information on how to apply, stop by the city office, or call 793-4111.
