Gladys L. Cripe 1925-2011

GREAT BEND — Gladys L. Cripe, 86, died November 17, 2011 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend.
She was born May 10, 1925 at Bucklin, the daughter of Shelley and Helen (Shearer) Nease.
She attended school in Bucklin and graduated from the Wichita Business School in the spring of 1944. She moved to Garden City and worked at the Air Force base until it closed in 1945. She married Keith Cripe August 4, 1945 at Garden City. He died May 2, 2004. Mrs. Cripe was a seamstress and homemaker until 1971 when she went to work at Purnell’s Fabric Store until it closed in 1990.
Mrs. Cripe was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Garden City for whom she made several sets of vestments and banners. After retiring, she continued doing alterations for her friends, both old and new.
Survivors include four children, Leslie Harris and her husband Tom, Great Bend; Ronald Cripe, Atlanta, Ga.; Howard Cripe and his wife Nancy, Olathe; and Max Cripe and his wife Irma, Bowie, Md.; two sisters: Blanche Larson, Lindsborg; and Barbara Cook, Denver, Colo.; a brother, James Nease, Kinsley; five grandchildren, Christy, Carody, Wesley, Alexa, and Ian; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Nease; and by three sisters: Alma Robinson, Marilyn Lewis, and Virginia Coen.
Graveside inurnment service, conducted by Rev. Denise Pass, is scheduled at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23 at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City. The register book will be available to sign from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22 at the Bryant Funeral Home.
