Paul Wesley Brown 1927 - 2011

MANHATTAN — Paul Wesley Brown, 83, longtime resident of Manhattan, passed away on Nov. 21 at Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan. Born on Dec. 3, 1927, in Great Bend, he was the son of Alice Ruth (Tullis) and Thomas Logan Brown. Paul was raised in Great Bend and graduated from high school in 1945. In 1949 he graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. On April 17, 1951, at the Danforth Chapel on the Kansas State University campus, he married Joanne Frudden. She preceded him in death on July 10, 2005.

 Paul proudly served in the U.S. Army, and was a vocal music teacher from 1952 to 1974 in Great Bend, Abilene and Manhattan. He was a claims manager at Farm Bureau in Manhattan for 20 years.

Mr. Brown was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. He directed the Chancel Choir at the church for 30 years from 1966 to 1996, and a member of the Kansas Music Educators Association.

Surviving family members include Paula Norvell, wife of Mark, of Tulsa, Okla., Vickie Brown, wife of Chris Zachariadis, of Boonsborro, Md., Jodi Caldwell, wife of Fred, of St. George, David Brown, husband of Susan Mosier, of Manhattan, Matthew Brown, of Beltsville, Md., and Alison Camillo, wife of Dave, of Brownsburg, Ind. Paul was also blessed with 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jody; two brothers, Dorsey and Clarence Brown; two sisters Ruby Dooley and Ruth Bolinder; and grandson Peter Zachariadis.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz in Manhattan, with the Rev. Kay Scarbrough officiating. No visitation is scheduled because Paul donated his body to the University of Kansas Medical Center. The family requests donations to Manhattan First United Methodist Church- Music Ministry.
