City helps host outdoors event

POSTED December 8, 2011 3:29 p.m.

City officials have agreed to support an event planned for next summer here, and intended to help bring national attention to our outdoors offerings.
This week the Great Bend City Council approved providing $1,500 in funding as well as other in kind assistance for Bottoms Up 2012.
Shawn McReynolds told the council that the event and its “calling contest” are planned for June 15-17 next year and the events will bring a lot of people to town from all over the nation.
“We will have vendors of every genre of the outdoor world including waterfowl, deer and turkey hunting, fishing and everything in between. This will be a community event to recognize and promote the vast amount of hunting and outdoor resources that this area has to offer,” according to a message he presented to the council.
Plus there will be some major concerts while the event is on, McReynolds added, suggesting, “we are very excited about a headliner concert that will come straight from ‘music row’ in Nashville, Tenn. There will also be duck and goose calling contests that will pay out over $7,000 in prize money,” the information noted.
More details will be announced as the event draws closer.
