Henry Edward Swartz 1923 - 2012

ALEXANDER — Henry Edward Swartz, 88, passed away on Jan. 8 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg. Born April 29, 1923 in Ft. Scott, he was the son of Paul and Ethel Morgan Swartz. A lifetime resident of Rush County, he was a farmer. On Jan. 28, 1945 he married Norma Clark. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1998.

Mr. Swartz was a World War II veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Alexander United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include two sons, Edward (Louise) Swartz, of Alexander, and Steven (Loretta) Swartz, of Rush Center; four daughters, Dianna (Stanley) O’Brien, of Wichita, Cynthia (Lyle) Seltmann, of LaVerne, Tenn., Susan (Ernest) Bailey, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Patricia (Michael) Johnson, of Marquette; two brothers, Roger (Judy) Boese, of Macdoel, Calif., and Wayne (Ginnie) Boese, of Hugo, Colo.; two sisters, Hazel Scheuerman, of Great Bend, and Estella (Alan) Miller, of WaKeeney; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Todd Allen Seltmann; and a granddaughter, Deborah Seltmann.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Alexander United Methodist Church, in Alexander. Burial is at the Alexander Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, with the family present on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., all at the funeral home.
