Hutchinson Brass Quintet will perform

POSTED January 12, 2012 8:47 a.m.

LARNED — The annual music scholarship fundraising event of the Larned Music Club will once again be a fun and entertaining event for all who attend.
The program is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22 in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church in Larned.
“Featured will be the outstanding Hutchinson Brass Quintet, which will present a one hour concert,” said Jerry Ford, Larned Music Club president. “That will be followed by all the wonderful chocolate fountain treats you dare to eat.”
Tickets are $5 and all money goes to the scholarship fund to provide music scholarships to high school students from Pawnee County who want to major in music at any college or university.
The funds are also made available to music teachers in Pawnee County to help pay for special needs during the school year that cannot be covered by the stressed school district budgets.
The Larned Music Club recently paid 100 percent of the entry fees for several Larned Middle School students who were chosen for the KMEA Honor Choir.
“The Larned Music Club is here to support our county music students in every possible way,” Ford said.
The Hutchinson Brass Quintet has performed together for 12 years.
• Jim Phillips, trumpet, is a retired band director with 40 years of teaching experience. He is the principal trumpet in the Hutchinson Symphony.
• Dr. Robert Rate, trumpet, recently retired from his profession as a medical doctor. He is a member of the Hutchinson Symphony.
• Roger Gibson, trombone, plays in the Hutchinson Symphony, and has been employed for many years with the Kroger Co.
• Joan Simaneau, French horn, is the band director at Burrton schools. She performs in the Hutchinson Symphony.
• David Keller, tuba, is the owner of  Keller Instrument Repair in Hutchinson. Keller is a well-known area jazz and rock musician on bass guitar.
The Hutchinson Brass Quintet can be heard at the Kansas State Fair each year throughout the week.  They also perform for many other events during the year.
“Please come and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of good music and good food and help support our music students,” Ford said.
Tickets are available from any music club member or may be purchased at the door. For information, contact Ford at 285-3662.
