Fred Lock 1916 - 2012

ULYSSES — Fred Lock, 95, died Feb. 5 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. Born Aug. 24, 1916, in Barton County, he was the son of Henry and Magdalena (Mai) Lock. He attended Blood Creek School District 85 and graduated in 1935 from Otis Rural High School Otis. On Sept. 4, 1938, he married Ethel Lenora Brack in Great Bend. She died Sept. 30, 2009. A resident of Ulysses since 1954, he was the plant manager for Producer’s Gas Company in Barton County, and then a gas well operator for Kansas Natural Gas for 42 years.

Mr. Lock was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Ross Lock of Fort Collins, Colo.; two daughters, Susan Wheeler of Arkansas City and Connie Flohr of Ulysses; a sister, Minnie Katherine Lock Alcott of Wheatridge, Colo.; five grandsons and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; four brothers, Henry Lock, William Lock, Siegmund Lock and Herman Lock; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Lock and Mollie Lock Wagner Maier.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church or Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post No. 79 Baseball Program, in care of the funeral home.
