Pawnee Heights qualifies for State Scholars Bowl

ROZEL — The Pawnee Heights High School Scholars Bowl team has qualified for Class 1A Division II State Scholars Bowl competition Saturday at Natoma High School.
Pawnee Heights Scholars Bowl members are Scarlett Olson, Casey Spence, Aaron Clapham, Rayna Karst, Jayton Salmans and Jake Hardiman. The team is coached by Britt Ewy.
Questions range in world language, social studies, language arts, mathematics, science and health, fine arts and year in review.
Pool B will be comprised of Weskan, Pawnee Heights, Hutchinson Central Christian, Baileyville, Almena-Northern Valley and Ransom-Western Plains. Pool A teams are Rolla, Cunningham, Axtell, Healy, Beloit-St. John’s and Wallace County.

Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — The guild met Feb. 7 in the fellowship of the Presbyterian Church. 
A thank you note was received from Alice and David Clapsaddle for the recently received prayer quilts and a donation from David for much needed batting.  Janis Lewis of Poulsbo, Washington sent greetings and announced her local guild’s Quilt Show. 
Additional announcements included a display at the Jordaan Library in March for the National Quilter’s month, prayer quilts this month for nine recipients, Pawnee County Fair Open Class on July 25, and the fat quarter drawing for the February 21 meeting will be candy/sweets.  Diann Morell demonstrated the ten-minute block with variations, a quick and easy block to make.
Show and Tell participants were:  Susan Gray, Victorian whimsy ball and quilted patriotic flag; Lavada Kraft, Japanese peacock and matching fabrics; Carol Tims, several children’s hair bows; Barbara Bennet, appliquéd blue and ecru throw and rust and green quilt top; Alice Clapsaddle, Alice-in-Wonderland fat quarters, prayer quilt with sewing notion fabric, Celtic Cross medley for pulpit and lectern hangings; Coleen Wolf, red and pink table runner and two table toppers, Ann Hicks, quilt in black/gold/tan musical instrument fabric, Halloween quilt, and two baby quilts.
