CLAFLIN — Don Cates and family have reopened The Ninety-Four Store Cafe, 200 E. Front St., Claflin, beginning last December. The hours are M-F from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., serving breakfast and lunch.

The cafe opened back up with two cooks, according to Cates. The breakfast cook is Don’s grandson Chris Cates, who has recently returned from Africa where he was serving on active duty with the Kansas National Guard.

The lunch cook is Jacki Klug who has a degree in culinary arts. She has over eight years experience as a cook in a restaurant prior to coming to The Ninety Four Store.

"We’re very excited that she’s a hometown girl," said Don. "She has a lot of experience.

"The reception so far has been very good," Don said.

Breakfast will include items such as eggs, bacon, French toast and hash browns.

There will be a special each day for lunch. A schedule is available for the daily special, and it will include items such as bierocks and lasagna. Hamburgers, chicken fried steak, and chicken strips are always available.

The cost of breakfast is around $5.50. "It is a good way to start the day," said Don. Anyone is welcome to come sit around the breakfast table.

Noon meals start at $3.85 for a hamburger and go up to around $8.50.

"We also have a great salad bar," said Cates. All-you-can-eat salad is available or a single serving.
