This was your prototypical high school boys’ basketball tilt between Great Bend and Hays, a low-scoring back-and-forth Western Athletic Conference finale between longtime rivals.
Yet Hays found its needed separation in the fourth quarter on Friday night, outscoring the Panthers 18-8 to register a 48-36 victory at Panther Fieldhouse.
In a battle to stay out of the WAC basement, Hays closed the regular season at 6-14 overall, 2-6 in conference play. Great Bend, in the meantime, dropped to 5-15, 1-7.
