Robert S. Woolf 1935-2012

CLAFLIN —Robert S. Woolf, 76, died Sunday, April 15 at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood. He was born Oct. 30, 1935 in Chillicothe, Mo., the son of Kermit and Sarah (Mumpower) Woolf.

Bob graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, Mo. and went on to earn his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Emporia State University. Bob started his teaching career in Turon and then Elmdale. He then was a guidance counselor for the Effingham school district before moving to Claflin in 1970. He was a guidance counselor for Claflin, Chase, Bushton and Quivira Heights school districts, retiring in 1996. Bob was a member of the Claflin United Methodist Church, coached little league baseball, was a Cub Scout leader and is in the USD 112 Hall of Fame as an educator. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, native American, Civil War and WWII history. He also enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, especially his children and grandchildren.

On Dec. 17, 1961 he married Eda Jean Nuttle in Wichita.

Survivors include his wife, Eda of the home; two sons, Steve Woolf and wife Kellie of Bushton, Greg Woolf and wife Shelly of Quinter; one daughter, Ginger Thill and husband Mike of Ellinwood; two brothers, Richard Woolf of Great Bend and Charles Woolf and wife Elaine of Macksville; twelve grandchildren, Stephen Woolf Jr. and wife Crystal, Jake Woolf and wife Brittney, Tanner Woolf, Chris Woolf, Zach Woolf, Lexie Woolf, Brock Woolf, Mackenzie Woolf, Abby Thill, Lauren Thill, MaryBeth Thill, Ava Thill and one great-grandchild, Maddie Woolf.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 18 at Claflin United Methodist Church in Claflin with Reverend Gene Langhofer officiating. Burial will follow at Claflin Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, April 17  from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Memorials may be given to the Golden Belt Humane Society or American Cancer Society in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
