KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A citizen of Mexico who had been living in Great Bend has been charged with unlawfully re-entering the United States after being deported, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Thursday. Octavio Alvarez-Portela, 23, was found July 31 in Sedgwick County. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of two years in federal prison without parole and a fine up to $250,000.
