Rev up for racing

The week usually starts on Sunday, or some would say Monday, but in Great Bend a new week starts tomorrow (Saturday, April 27).
Governor Sam Brownback has proclaimed April 27 through May 5 Kansas Speedweek, honoring Great Bend’s contribution to hot rodding and drag racing history in Kansas. After all, the National Hot Rod Association held its first national championship drag race here in 1955. So, the local Sunflower Rod & Custom Association and the NHRA are sponsoring this week of racing events.
Saturday is the beginning, and racing fans will have an opportunity to see cars traveling at speeds ...
