WINFIELD — Double-doubles provided by Dionne Harris and Raven Adams led the Barton Community College women’s basketball team over the Southwestern JV in Winfield on Friday, 79-58.
The Cougars played their best game defensively since Nov. 23, holding the Moundbuilders to 58 points. It is the lowest opponent’s point total since Barton lost to Cowley 52-35.
“We played well in the first half,” BCC head coach Keith Ferguson said. “We played better defensively. We’ve made some strides, and we shared the ball more.”
Ferguson said that improvements on defense has been the focal point of the Cougars practices since they gave up 74 points to the Southwestern JV at home on Dec. 6.
“It has been our focus in practice,” Ferguson said, “and it will continue to be our focus in practice. They understand that we aren’t where we need to be, defensively. They know we got to get better.”
Harris led the Cougars with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Adams added 14 points, 10 rebounds and three assists to give the Cougars their fifth win in a row.
Barton takes the streak into the break.
“It is nice to win five in a row anytime,” Ferguson said. “it is nice to do some things before the break. Now we just need to come back, get our conditioning back and keep going.”
The Cougars next game in Jan. 5 in Concordia against Cloud to open up Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play.
