County hopes letter will help avert suit

The Barton County Commission hopes a letter to area lawmakers might help render obsolete a lawsuit to recover state Oil and Gas Valuation Depletion Trust Fund money owed to the county.
Meeting Monday morning, the commission approved sending the letter to state representatives Marshall Christmann, John Edmonds and Troy Waymaster, and Senator Mitch Holmes. The idea is to convince them to reaffirm their intent to return the full amount.
Last year, the Legislature amended the distribution by altering the percentage counties received from the trust fund. This was done to help offset state budget shortfalls.
