Train spills grain west of Ellinwood

Approximately two miles west of Ellinwood, at least five Kansas and Oklahoma railroad grain cars overturned when a train derailed early Tuesday morning. Officials are still investigating the cause.

K&O Railroad contacted the Barton County Sheriff’s Office at 4:39 a.m. Tuesday to report an intersection was blocked at East Barton County Road and SE 90 Ave. for a train derailment with overturned grain hoppers.
The derailment, located about two miles west of Ellinwood, was visible from U.S. 56.
This was a courtesy call as no one was injured, there were no fires or hazardous materials, and no county equipment or assistance was needed. The caller said a total of seven cars had overturned, and the intersection would be blocked until everything was cleaned up ...
