AG office responds to defense motions

Attorney General Steve Six's office agreed Friday that one of capital murder suspect Adam Longoria's phone calls to his attorney's office may have been recorded at the jail. But in response to motion to dismiss the case, Six said there's been no evidence that Longoria's constitutional right to attorney-client privilege was violated.

Air Festival & Fly-in

The Great Bend Municipal Airport Air Festival & Fly-in concludes Sunday, Sept. 19, with activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Concessions will be available. Many airplanes arrived at the airport this weekend, and are on display. Watch for remote-control aircraft demonstrations as well.

Student Support Services a success

Accepting federal grant money may be a routine task for Barton Community College's Board of Trustees, but it's nothing to take for granted, administrators said Thursday. As Barton's trustees met to accept a new Student Support Services grant from the U.S. Department of Education, President Carl Heilman said at least one neighboring college did not fare so well.

Flag cremation part of POW/MIA Remembrance events

This weekend, the American Legion Post 180 of Great Bend, along with the American Legion Riders, will pay tribute to Prisoners of War and military personnel listed as Missing in Action. They will also show honor to the American flag by retiring flags that are no longer fit emblems of patriotism.

Meals on Wheels delivers

Seven days a week, Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver lunch to dozens of homebound ill, elderly and disabled people in Great Bend and Hoisington. The service is also available five days a week in Ellinwood, where clients can order frozen meals for the weekends, said Mary Lou Warren, chairman of the Meals on Wheels Board of Directors.
