Library offers Book Store sale

Great Bend Public Library's Book Store will observe National Library Week, April 10-16, with a two-for-one sale. This week, patrons can purchase two hardbacks for $3 or two paperbacks for $1.

The Family and Schools Together (FAST) program in Great Bend brings families back to school for evening meetings that include meals, activities and prizes. On Thursday, the school board approved several contributions, including $1,400 so Park Elementary can purchase 10 tables.

Burglary victim didn’t tell cops he shot Aron Villegas

Sterling Mills said he shot Aron Villegas in self defense the night Villegas and others broke into his Great Bend home at 1801 Eighth St. and beat him up. But when Mills called police about the burglary he didn't mention shooting anyone.

Library sees utility savings with geothermal

The geothermal heating and air conditioning system installed in the Great Bend Public Library building at the end of 2014 may never pay for itself, but it has resulted in lower utility costs. At Monday's Library Board meeting, GBPL Director Harry Willems shared month-by-month fees for gas and electricity for both years, showing a net savings of $6,823.
