Library director reacts to City reaction

The latest graduates of the Barton County Academy walked across the stage Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend, with dozens of friends and family members watching. So many, in fact, that the venue was changed from the Academy on 10th Street to the church, which had a larger meeting room.

School board meets with attorneys

Great Bend USD 428's Board of Education met with the school district's attorneys Monday. The special meeting started at noon at the District Education Center where the board spent 40 minutes in an executive session, which is closed to the public, in order to discuss a matter protected by attorney-client privilege.

The Center to hold Mental Health Awareness Day

The Center for Counseling & Consultation plans to unveil new mental health screening kiosks at its Third Annual Mental Health Awareness Day on Friday, May 20. Booths will be set up in the parking lot at 5815 Broadway Ave. in Great Bend, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The mother of a former Great Bend High School student who was allegedly attacked by fellow swim team members on a school activity bus is suing Great Bend USD 428, the school board and the parents of four students.

New coach ‘proud to be a panther’

Great Bend High School's new head boys basketball coach, Tim Brooks, will meet student athletes Tuesday morning. Brooks also attended Monday's USD 428 Board of Education meeting where his appointment was approved. He will also serve as assistant activities director at Great Bend Middle School and will be a strength-conditioning coach at GBHS.

BCC trustees to review contracts, security

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will review contracts for administrators, management staff and head coaches during the monthly board study session, set for 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, in room F-30, on the lower level of the Fine Arts Building. The only open positions at this time are the head coach for women's basketball and the executive director of Institutional Advancement.
