Three one-vehicle accidents over the weekend sent area residents to three different hospitals, according to Kansas Highway Patrol logs. The most serious accident occurred Friday night in Ellsworth County.

The bright yellow school buses in front of Great Bend's Walmart and 10th Street Dillons store Wednesday weren't carrying children. Rather, they were part of the United Way of Central Kansas Stuff the Bus project. Shoppers were invited to drop off items from the "wish lists" of the 19 United Way agencies in Barton and Pawnee counties.
Search warrants executed Tuesday evening in Great Bend yielded suspected methamphetamine and marijuana, and a stolen gun was recovered during a related traffic stop. A total of six people were arrested.
The gymnasiums at Great Bend's City Auditorium and the Great Bend Activity Center are closed for the remainder of the month, GBRC board members learned Monday. Both gyms and the exercise area at the Activity Center closed Monday and will remain closed while floors are being refinished by the Great Bend Recreation Commission staff.
Demolition of the fire-ravaged Camp Aldrich dining hall will begin next Tuesday, the first step in construction of a new building. The Barton Community College Board of Trustees met Thursday and approved an insurance settlement of more than $2 million to build a new dining hall. Fire destroyed the main building at BCC's Camp Aldrich conference center last April.
