New Sports Medicine courses open career pathways for GBHS students

Great Bend High School students interested in careers in health care or science can now enroll in Sports Medicine. Three Sports Medicine I classes and one section of Sports Medicine II were added to the GBHS curriculum for the 2015-2016 school year. Athletic trainer Ryan Zink is the instructor for all of the courses.

Alice in Wonderland

Great Bend High School's Theater Department will present "Alice in Wonderland" at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the GBHS Auditorium, 2027 Morton St.

Armando and Irma Herrera have opened the A to Z thrift store at 1209 Main, Great Bend. At the grand opening on Feb. 20, the Herreras had a steady flow of first-time customers to browse through a variety of clothing, household items and, "a little bit of everything from A to Z."

Suspect jailed after court-ordered GPS fails

The Barton County Attorney's office recently sought to have the bond revoked on a Great Bend man facing charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault and domestic battery. Dalton Contrerez, 28, has been wearing an electronic monitoring device as a condition of his bond but reportedly allowed the device's battery to go dead on three or more occasions in February.

Delano Jazz Orchestra coming to Jazz Festival

The Delano Jazz Orchestra will perform at the 22nd annual Great Bend Jazz Festival, to be held Sunday, March 13 at the Crest Theater. Doors will open at 2 p.m., and the Prairie Winds Jazz Combo, made up of local musicians, will entertain at 2:30.
