Fellers agrees, 'Heaven is for Real'

Terry Fellers, 59, didn't need to watch the movie "Heaven is for Real" to know that is the case. After seeing the story of a 5-year-old boy who claims to have visited heaven during a near-death experience, Fellers decided it was time to share his own experience of heaven.

Chapman trial postponed

The first-degree murder trial for Jeffrey Wade Chapman that was scheduled to start next Monday has been postponed. It is now schedule to start Aug. 18 in Barton County District Court. A pre-trial hearing is set for May 9.

Camp Hope to remain in Barton County

Camp Hope, a camp for children with cancer, will remain in Barton County this year in spite of a fire that wiped out the dining hall of the intended camp site.

Planetarium Re-boot to include kids' shows

Those who attend one of the "Planetarium Reboot" programs that start Thursday at Barton Community College will also get a look at the new entrance to the Science & Math Building. That $50,000 project included adding new doors that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and remodeling the vestibule. The Planetarium is located in Room 101 of the Science Building, which is on the northeast corner of the campus.

Fire starts behind dryer Monday morning

Great Bend Firefighters were able to save a mobile home Monday morning after a buildup of lint ignited behind a dryer. The call to 5540 Second St. Unit F was reported at 8:35 a.m. and firefighters arrived to find light smoke throughout the house.

​Rec Commission sees health-care costs increase

The cost of employee health insurance at the Great Bend Recreation Commission is expected to increase 11 percent overall this year, Executive Director Diann Henderson told the GBRC Board of Directors on Monday. The board voted to renew the major health coverage for the next fiscal year, which starts July 1.
