Outdoor movie

Families enjoy an outdoor movie, Thursday night in Jack Kilby Square. The City of Great Bend and Waters True Value sponsored the show and provided free popcorn and lemonade. On Thursday, Aug. 13, they will show the original "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" move. Shows start around 9:15 p.m. Seating is available, or bring a lawn chair or a blanket.

Riley School gets new security feature

Summer projects at Great Bend USD 428 include a new door intercom system at Riley Elementary School. Assistant Administrator Khris Thexton said Dayton Security in Hoisington recommended the $1,600 door buzzer system. Visitors will need to press an intercom button and be seen on camera before someone pushes a buzzer so they can enter the school.

New school board approves USD 428 contracts

With three new Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education members in place on Monday, the 2015-2016 school board ratified the new contract for teachers and approved pay increases for all categories of district employees.

Teachers ratify contract; board approval needed

Members of the Great Bend-National Education Association have announced their ratification of the 2015-2016 licensed employers agreement with Great Bend USD 428. The school board is expected to approve that agreement when it meets at 5 p.m. Monday, July 13, at the District Education Center, 201 S. Patton Road.

Healthy eats: It's a matter of balance

In February, the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee sent to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and to U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services Sylvia Burwell a nearly 600-page scientific report, which serves as a recommendation to the agencies as they develop the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
