PAWNEE ROCK -- The Barton County Sheriff's Office was summoned to the 400 block of Pawnee Ave. at 10 p.m. Tuesday, when someone reported hearing sounds coming from an abandoned residence and saw a "blue-type truck" at the residence. Deputies checked the residence but found no signs of entry. This was the same block where a burglary of another unoccupied residence was reported on Monday.
PAWNEE ROCK - Burglars got away with the kitchen sink – and the counters and cabinets, as well as an entire bathroom and other items, the owners of a fully remodeled Pawnee Rock house reported Monday. In fact, Chris and Kristina Frost say the home they restored a few years ago was gutted while it sat unoccupied.

Barton Community College officials plan to ask the Board of Regents to approve a new educational program for cowboys. The idea is to create a certificate for beef cattle production, similar to the certificate that can now be earned for knowledge of crop production.
A 1988 Dodge Dakota pickup that was stolen from Barton County around the same time law enforcement officers were searching for a fugitive has been recovered, Undersheriff Larry Holliday said. It was found Tuesday in Wichita.
The Barton County Sheriff's Office announced Sunday evening that the search for fugitive Michael Aaron Jayne had been called off for the Barton County area, after federal authorities confirmed he had left the area. Authorities believe he left in a pickup stolen from a Barton Hills residence.

Dean of Business Management Mark Dean said he doesn't anticipate a mill levy increase for next year's budget, based on early figures on Barton County assessments. Dr. Robin Garrett was named vice president of instruction and student services Thursday when the Barton Community College Board of Trustees met. Dr. Garrett replaces Dr. Penny Quinn, who left to become president of Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Ill.

Even though the franchise got so much wrong – starting with the title, which more accurately should have been "Cretaceous Park" – scientists in the field say the movies spark interest in a way that real fossils cannot.
