Four feared dead after plane from Great Bend crashes in Tennessee

A private airplane that flew out of the Great Bend Municipal Airport on Monday afternoon crashed and burned around 5 p.m. in a field near Nashville, Tenn. There were no survivors, according to Tennessee news sources such as NewsChannel5.com, which also reported that the Gulfstream 690C was registered to Mid-Kansas Agri-Co in Pawnee Rock.

Holy Family School honored for 5th time

Students at Holy Family School in Great Bend cheered for academics on Friday, when Principal Karen Moeder announced the school had won the prestigious Governor's Achievement Award for the fifth time. The award is based on the results of last year's math and reading assessment scores.

Man arrested inside Second St. house

Thursday morning, Great Bend police were again summoned to 1411 1/2 Second St., the scene of recent multiple shootings. This time, the reporting party said an unknown subject was trespassing on his property. William Ellington was contacted inside the house and was arrested on an outstanding warrant. The jail log lists Ellington as a Great Bend resident and he was booked on a Stafford County warrant for probation violation. He is being held without bond.

Bands, fans enjoy central Kansas venue

Christian rock band Manic Drive returns to Great Bend on Sunday, Feb. 9, with two other musical acts, Consumed by Fire and Ryan Stevenson. All three acts will appear at the First Assembly of God Church, 601 Patton Road, starting at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m., said Erin Powers, local spokesman for the concert.
