Morning, noon basketball to get wall of fame

For more than 30 years, some Great Bend men have started their mornings or spent their noon hours at the Municipal Auditorium, enjoying a game of pickup basketball in the gym. Now participants from the Great Bend Recreation Commission's morning and noon basketball programs want to give something back – and establish a hall of fame, local attorney Chuck Pike said.

KBI: Cocaine seized in drug raid

Officers seized approximately half a pound of cocaine, with a street value around $14,000, during a drug raid Wednesday in Great Bend, according to a statement from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Search warrants were issued as a result of a six-month joint investigation by the KBI, Great Bend Police Department, Barton County Sheriff's Office and Ellinwood Police Department.

Zoo gets 2 parrots

Two Eclectus parrots arrived at the Great Bend-Brit Spaugh Zoo on Tuesday - a green male named Jazz and a red female named Ruby. The birds were a gift from Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas.

Presumed innocent

Recently, during Jeffrey Chapman's two-week trial on first-degree murder charges, the Great Bend Tribune showed photos of Chapman walking to the Barton County Courthouse in the presence of Barton County Sheriff's Officers. Because he was wearing modern constraints not visible to the naked eye, some people assumed he posed a flight risk and wondered what law enforcement officers were thinking.

'2 Across' opens Thursday at Crest
