Zoo members get sneak peek

Hofeling returning to rec board

Last December, the Great Bend Recreation Commission Board presented a plaque to Bruce Hofeling, whose second four-year term as a board member was about to end. After a one-year absence, Hofeling will return as a board member at large on Jan. 1, 2014.

It became a front-page story this week when the Humane Society of the United States offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

Beautiful Beginnings, Barristers win Charity Chili Cook-off

Beautiful Beginnings won the Tasters Choice Award at the 2013 Charity Chili Cook-off, Saturday in downtown Great Bend. Those who bought a $5 taster bracelet were allowed to sample the chili from 11 entrants, and to vote for their favorite. The entrants donated the chili, and proceeds will go to the Barton County Food Bank, said Sarah Krom with Sunflower Diversified Services, event organizer.

Advanced Therapy and Sports Medicine celebrated National Physical Therapy Month in October by organizing its third annual community food drive. As the Give Back Community Food Drive concluded Thursday, employees at the Great Bend location, 3715 10th St., filled the back of a jeep with non-perishable food items people had donated during the month.

Dream Center welcomes Phoenix visionaries

A nonprofit organization with the motto "Reaching Hurting People, Restoring Families, Realizing Dreams" quietly got underway in Great Bend last August.
