4-H shooters place 2nd at state

The Barton County team of Ryan Kohman, Parker Smith, Katelyn Reh and Lake Lyman placed 2nd in the state at the recent State 4-H Air Rifle Competition. The 4-H Shooting Sports Program uses the skills and disciplines of shooting to assist young people and their leaders to attain knowledge and develop essential life skills.

Kansas CRP meetings for landowners prior to signup hosted by PF

Pheasants Forever is hosting fifty-one informational meetings across Kansas for landowners and agricultural producers in advance of the USDA Farm Service Agency's Conservation Reserve Program general sign-up that runs May 20 through June 14. Led by Pheasants Forever Farm Bill Wildlife Biologists, landowners can learn how to increase their farm or ranch income while creating wildlife habitat in the process.

The following meals will be served May 13 through May 17. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

Four local gymnasts compete at Vegas nationals

LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Alexis Folkerts, Jadynce Schroeder, Jordyn Stukey and Cadence Brown competed at this year' s National meet in Las Vegas June 10-13. Schroeder led the quad placing third overall after competing in the vault, bars, beam and floor. Stukey and Folkerts placed fifth and sixth while Brown came in ninth. (Not pictured is Cadence Brown)

KDHE immunization program

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Immunization Program is continuing its successful 'Immunize and Win a Prize,' program. This statewide campaign provides prizes to families who have their children timely immunized. All Kansas children are eligible. However, to qualify, the children must receive their immunizations from a Vaccines For Children (VFC) provider.

Darlene R. Hunt, 84, of Great Bend, passed away at her home in Great Bend on Saturday morning, June 27, 2015, after a brief illness. Born on March 5, 1931, at Alexander, she was the daughter of Walter H. and Minnie (Krug) Boese. In 1947, she graduated from Alexander High School and worked for the former Parsons-Williams Funeral Home (now Prairie Rose Funeral Home) in Anthony for 15 years.
