Donna Krug will talk about fresh vegetables and fruit during the program "Seasonal & Simple," which she will present twice this week. The free program will be given at noon Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St., and at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. The programs are sponsored by the Great Bend Recreation Commission.
The Golden Belt Humane Society picked up three dogs Saturday afternoon at 329 Maple St., after someone reported they were out in the heat with no water or shelter. A 21-year-old woman was served a notice to appear in municipal court for alleged cruelty to animals.
Average retail gasoline prices in Kansas have risen 2.0 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.60 per gallon on Monday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 1,329 gas outlets in Kansas. This compares with the national average that has fallen 2.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.59, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
Roxanna Lee (Finch) Schneider died Aug. 30 at her home in Great Bend. She was born Oct. 29, 1953, at Hays, to Robert M. and Betty Jean (Rubendall) Finch. Roxie was a graduate of Hays High School and also had a Fine Arts degree and at one time was an adjunct professor of design at Fort Hays State University. She was an associate, American Society of Interior Designers.
LARNED - Michael Allan Wilkerson, 31, died Sept. 9 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Born April 15, 1982, at Larned, he was the son of Alan Wilkerson and Patricia Plotner. A longtime area resident, he worked in the oil field and was a roughnecker. He was of the Christian faith.
HOISINGTON - Virginia Ballard, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 8, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Jan. 26, 1931 at St. Petersburg, Fla., she was the daughter of Frank Leslie, Sr. and Marilyn Virginia (Young) McEwen.
LARNED - The Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility had the honor and privilege of hearing Gretchen Eick, who gave presentations to both staff and inmates in recognition of the Civil Rights Movement recently at the facility.
