HOISINGTON – Roger Lee Zeigler, 76, died June 25 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Aug. 3, 1935, he was the son of Donald L. and Bernice W. (Slimmer) Zeigler. He worked as a sales associate and representative for Tower Products at Lenexa. A Hoisington High School graduate, he was a resident of Hoisington for most of his life. He spent several years in Kenwood Plaza, St. John.
John H. Mitchell Jr., 79, died June 25 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 27, 1932, at Albany, N.Y., he was the son of John Henry and Ada (Oliver) Mitchell. He married Lois Ann Rule on June 5, 1955, at Green Island, N.Y. She died June 13, 2009. A Great Bend resident since 1974, coming from Troy and Green Island, N.Y., he worked as a production manager for Fuller Brush Company.
Viola Eleanor Schwein, 96, died June 25 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend, where she had been a resident for the last 6 ½ years. She was born Dec. 28, 1915, at Hoisington, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Herdt) Schneider.
BURLINGTON, Iowa – LaDonna Maxine Denney, 79, died June 23 at her home in Burlington, Iowa, with her son and daughter-in-law at her side. Born Jan. 25, 1933, at Kiowa, she was the daughter of Laurence G. and Bertha Pearl (Downtain) Thomas. She married Donald Dean Denney Sr. on May 23, 1952, at Great Bend. He died Aug. 14, 2000. An Iowa resident, she was a cook for Unified School District 428, retiring after 35 years of service.
BISON - Olga Crotinger, 96, died June 25 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Services are pending with Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.
The Great Bend Public Library will be having another Adults' Night Out Movie at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, for anyone 18 and older. The library will show "The Vow," and those who attend earn an extra entry for this week's Summer Reading drawing.

Members of the task force said the event was well attended and thanked the community for its participation and support for suicide prevention.
TIMKEN - Ernest "Ernie" Bucl, 88, died Sept. 14 at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse. Born April 15, 1926 at La Crosse, he was the son of Lucian and Frances (Havelka) Bucl.
Jim S. Cain, 66, died Sept. 13 at his home in Great Bend. Born Nov. 27, 1947 at Great Bend, he was the son of Benjamin and Stephanie (Schenk) Cain.

HUTCHINSON - Aubrey Linus Schartz, 82, died Sept. 14, at his home in Hutchinson. Born Aug. 20, 1932, in rural Ellinwood, he was the son of Edward and Frances Schartz. On Oct. 16, 1951, he married Bonnie Lou Harbaugh in Ellinwood. He retired from Marmie's Motors in Great Bend and moved to Hutchinson.

The Great Bend Police Department continues to receive reports of counterfeit money circulating at local businesses.
An officer from the Great Bend Police Department arrested Bryce Anderson, 20, for flee and elude and other traffic infractions, at 1:16 a.m. Sunday at Burger King, 3929 10th St. He was booked for fleeing and eluding law enforcement, obstruction, driving while revoked, no insurance, reckless driving, speeding, obstructed windshield, failure to yield at stop sign and failure to use turn signal. He posted a $5,000 surety bond through Ace Bail Bonding and was released.

ELLSWORTH - A man and woman from Russell died Sunday in a two-vehicle collision at the K-14/K-156 junction, 1.5 miles south of Ellsworth.
The Great Bend Madrigal Pops Singers are now selling tickets for their fall chili supper fundraiser. The event is set for 5-7 p.m. Sept. 26 at the high school's Jack Kilby Commons area, prior to the football homecoming game against Wichita North.
