The annual reunion of family and friends of Conrad and Rosa Matal Scheuerman was held Aug. 6 and 7 at Camp Aldrich. The family gathered Saturday for a barbecue, swimming and games. Three year old granddaughter, Calyn, starts next week as a peer model at Helping Hands Pre-school. It does not feel like sixteen years have passed since our son Matt was a peer model in the same program. I would say the "Helping Hands" program has stood the test of time and shown how successful learning can occur when matching children with special needs along side a few peer models.

John Frank Werner, 94, died Dec. 11 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Aug. 27, 1919 in Odin, he was the son of John Baptist and Regina Philomena (Schmidt) Werner. On Oct. 5, 1952, he married Leona Lauren at the Viking Lutheran Country Church in North Dakota. A longtime Great Bend resident, he worked for the Barton County Road and Bridge Department and later served as a long term employee of the City of Great Bend Street Department. He also worked for the Arkansas Sand and Gravel.
