Homer C. "Jake" Delaney, 78, died November 29 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 18, 1934 at Ness City, he was the son of George Homer and Fern (Libby) Delaney.
Darlene Ramona Cline, 81, died Nov. 29 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born March 7, 1931 at Sawyer, she was the daughter of Henry and Edith (Greenstreet) Powers.
HAYS- Ada O. (Brown) Harmon, 98, died Dec. 1 in Hays. Survivors include son Roger Harmon of Round Rock, TX; daughter RoAnn Blauer of Hays; sister Elsie Staatz of Junction City; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Harmon in 1997.
Great Bend High School was represented by 17 scholars at the Fort Hays State University Math Relays on Thursday, November 8th. In all there were 681 participants and 48 schools represented at this annual event. GBHS placed 6th overall out of ten teams in the 4A/5A/6A school category.
Imagine a family member was injured overseas while serving in the Army and had to be hospitalized. On Sunday, March 1, our dear mom, Arla Faye McElhaney, 90, joined our dad Carl in Heaven. Arla was born on March 12, 1924 in Pittsburg, to Arthur and Odessa Jones. She graduated from high school in Magazine, Ark., and attended business college in Chillicothe, Mo. She married Carl McElhaney and started a family in Wichita. In 1952 they settled in Great Bend with their two sons, Kenneth and Phillip. They were both active leaders in Cub Scouts, where Arla was a den mother and Carl was a scoutmaster. The Ellinwood Eagles Boys team won their first sub-state tournament game versus Ell-Saline on Monday with a final score of 59-37. It was a back and forth game in the first half with neither team really finding momentum. Ellinwood held just a one-point lead going into the half at 20-19.
