Helen Marie Weese

Helen Marie Weese, 80, died Dec. 3, 2010 at her Great Bend, Kansas, home. She was born June 2, 1930, at Pratt, the daughter of Lee and Mabel (Kilgore) Miller. She Married Calvin Levi Weese Oct. 24, 1948 at Pratt. He died Oct. 22, 2002. A Great Bend resident since 1955 coming from Pratt. Mrs. Weese was a Certified Medical Aide for 32 years at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Great Bend.

ERIE - William E. "Bill" George, 92, longtime Erie resident, died Dec. 2 in the emergency room of Labette Health in Parsons. He was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Erie, to Fred and Edith (Heady) George. He graduated from Erie High School in 1937, from Parsons Junior College in 1941 and from Pittsburg State University in 1941.

Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend seeks information on a burglary at 1313 Cleveland St., Police Chief Dean Akings said. The residence was burglarized sometime between 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 and 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 28. Conservation Innovation Grants application deadline Dec. 28

SALINA - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack this week announced that USDA is seeking proposals for grants to improve water quality, air quality and promote energy conservation. USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is making available $25 million through the Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG) program to address natural resource concerns nationwide with a special emphasis on the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and the Mississippi River Basin.

Bison to celebrate 125th

The city of Bison will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Saturday. The festivities will begin by digging up the time capsule at 2 p.m., which was buried near the old City Hall on Main Street during the towns centennial.
