Helen Marie Weese, 80, died Dec. 3, 2010 at her Great Bend, Kansas, home. She was born June 2, 1930, at Pratt, the daughter of Lee and Mabel (Kilgore) Miller. She Married Calvin Levi Weese Oct. 24, 1948 at Pratt. He died Oct. 22, 2002. A Great Bend resident since 1955 coming from Pratt. Mrs. Weese was a Certified Medical Aide for 32 years at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Great Bend.
ERIE - William E. "Bill" George, 92, longtime Erie resident, died Dec. 2 in the emergency room of Labette Health in Parsons. He was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Erie, to Fred and Edith (Heady) George. He graduated from Erie High School in 1937, from Parsons Junior College in 1941 and from Pittsburg State University in 1941.
LARNED - Mary Elizabeth Hewson, 88, died unexpectedly at home in rural Larned, on Nov. 30. She was born on November 5, 1922 in Larned. She attended Larned schools and graduated in 1940 from Larned High School. She was a 1948 graduate of Kansas State University with a dual degree in secondary education and psychology.
Donald W. "Don" Shorock, 66, died Dec. 2, 2010 at his Great Bend home. He was born June 7, 1944 at Jersey City, New Jersey, the son of Walter and Isobel (McCutcheon) Shorock. He married Nora Jean Doubek July 4, 1976 at Pratt. She survives. A Great Bend resident since 1977, coming from Cunningham, Mr. Shorock was an employment specialist for the state of Kansas. The city of Bison will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Saturday. The festivities will begin by digging up the time capsule at 2 p.m., which was buried near the old City Hall on Main Street during the towns centennial. This will be followed by a firemans water fight between the Bison and Timken volunteer firemen.
