WICHITA - Aaron Wade Fisher, 38, passed away following a car accident. He was born June 12, 1973, the son of Karl LeRoy Fisher and Connie (Clark) Fisher.

People stepping to the line or straddling their bicycles to compete in the Human (e)Motion Bike, Run, Walk event on June 2 will be competing together to stamp out area domestic and sexual violence. All of the proceeds for the Great Bend Regional Hospital event, now in its second year, go to Family Crisis Center, which is located in Great Bend and serves 10 counties.
While their friends are trying to sink a golf ball, younger participants in Camp Hope will be off on a scavenger hunt for a number of prizes. Camp organizers are seeking volunteers for both the golf outing and the hunt, which are scheduled for Wednesday, June 20.
St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center recently showed its appreciation to employees, volunteers and board members by serving up a barbecue lunch during Healthcare Week, May 6-12.
The program itself was a first for community colleges in Kansas and now one of its participants is the first in Great Bend to fulfill its requirements.

ELLINWOOD - Alma M. "Pinky" Lloyd, 82, died Nov. 27 at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born April 27, 1932, in Ellinwood, she was the daughter of Edward and Anna Marie Kowalsky Jenisch/Edna Schmidt Jenisch. She graduated from high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Wichita. On Oct. 26, 1953, she married Leslie J. Lloyd in Ellinwood. He died on March 5, 1991. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood, she was a retired bookkeeper for the Great Bend COOP in Ellinwood.
LARNED - Edward Wayne Hesher, 86, passed away Nov. 28, at Diversicare of Larned. Born Dec. 1, 1927, in Gypsum, he was the son of Bert and Dorris Hawthorne Hesher. On April 20, 1952, he married Patricia L. Turpin in Kansas City, Mo. She survives. Moving from Topeka to Larned in 1952, he was an Accountant/Business Manager for the State of Kansas.
Dink Everett Garner, 94, died Nov. 27, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Feb. 22, 1920, in Eufaula, Okla., he was the son of Dink G. and Nora E. (Collie) Garner. On Dec. 31, 1947, he married Betty Lorraine Johnson in Great Bend. She died on July 19, 2011. A resident of Great Bend most of his life, he was a Dairy Department Manager for Dillons, retiring in 1983.
CLAFLIN - Lawrence J. Jenisch, 73, died Nov. 26, at Hays Medical Center. Born Aug. 18, 1941, in Great Bend, he was the son of Joseph C. and Margaret (Finger) Jenisch. Lawrence graduated from Odin High School. He later received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Fort Hays State Teachers College. On Aug. 17, 1963, he married Mara Kay Neill at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell. She survives. He was a farmer and a stockman and also a long-time teacher at the Claflin High School.
Greg Drews, 64, died Nov. 22 at his home in Great Bend. Born Feb. 8, 1950, in Great Bend, he was the son of Herman E. and Shirley (Frey) Drews. He was a tester for Halliburton and later worked for Koch in accounting. Raised in Claflin, Greg moved to Wichita to attend Wichita State University and continued living in Wichita for a number of years before moving to Great Bend.

POTWIN – Winifred V. "Winnie" Hanzlicek, 93, passed away Nov. 26 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. She was born near Algona, Iowa, July 16, 1921, the daughter of Fred and Doretta (Mitchell) Plumb. She was united in marriage to Gilbert K. Hanzlicek at Wilson. He preceded her in death in 1962. She was a homemaker and later worked for nearly 20 years as a baker in the hospital dietary department.
The King United Methodist Church at 1608 O'dell in Great Bend, will be celebrating it's 70th Anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 30, during the morning worship service at 11 a.m., recognizing their past and looking forward to the future.
Have you noticed how Halloween is being overtaken by Christmas - displays and decorations and whatnot showing up before the end of October? With all the commercialism of the season of Christmas, and seeing everywhere you look the images of red-nosed reindeer, dancing snowmen, Grinches, and Santas, it is easy for the real reason for the season to become lost. That may be why more Christian churches and families are bringing back a celebration of Advent.
