The children that attended Operation Overboard Vacation Bible School are shown here with items that were donated to the Golden Belt Humane Society as their mission for the week. They raised over $110 and collected 71 items. Throughout the week children enjoyed underwater adventures with Bible stories, magical science experiments, fun recreation games, creative crafts, yummy snacks and uplifting worship music with lots of dancing. They even got the chance to meet Ocho, the entertaining and witty octopus. LaVerna C. Moore, 80, died Feb. 26, 2015, at the Hays Medical Center. Born April 11, 1934, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of G.F. and Christina (Cook) Ohnmacht. Originally from Olmitz, she married Walter B. Moore Jr. on Sept. 8, 1956, at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica, Chicago, Ill. He died Oct. 17, 2002. A Great Bend resident since 1991, returning from Chicago, she was a homemaker.
SARASOTA, Fla. - Vicky Boger Trivett, 76, died on Feb. 21, 2015. Born May 17, 1938, in Ulm, Germany, she was the daughter of Fredrich and Rosa Bauder. On April 27, 1960, she married Richard Dean Boger in Columbus, Ga. The couple resided in Great Bend from 1960 to 1974, before moving to Ellinwood from 1974-2002. They owned Boger Pharmacy in Ellinwood and Boger Gift Gallery in Great Bend. On April 19, 2002, Richard passed away. On Oct. 3, 2003, Vicky married Preston Trivett. The couple resided in Sarasota, Fla.

Starting around Monday, March 2, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will begin a project to replace the concrete box bridge on the west side of Century Road and widen US-56 to four lanes from the end of the existing four lane roadway west to the entrance to the airport. Project construction is scheduled to be completed in September, depending on delays due to adverse weather conditions.
