​Imogene Osborn 1929 - 2012

Imogene Osborn, 83, died Nov. 28 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born Sept. 1, 1929, at Lamar, Colo., the daughter of Joseph Ernie and Anna (Bausye) Choat. She married Albert D. Hatten on Oct. 1, 1943, at Grenada, Colo. He preceded her in death. She then married James O. Osborn on Oct. 6, 1980, at Cimarron. He died Dec. 9, 1993. A resident of Great Bend and Claflin since 1977, she was a day care provider, and later a caregiver for the elderly.

Rose Ann (Werth) Sipes 1937 - 2012

ELLIS - Rose Ann (Werth) Sipes, 75, passed away Nov. 27 at the Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born May 3, 1937 in rural Schoenchen, she was the daughter of August and Dorothy (Werth) Werth. In 1955 she graduated from Schoenchen High School. She was employed by Adronics of Hays as an assembly line worker. She was a loving and devoted grandmother. She enjoyed spending time at the farm especially during calving season.

Darlene R. Hunt, 84, of Great Bend, passed away at her home in Great Bend on Saturday morning, June 27, 2015, after a brief illness. Born on March 5, 1931, at Alexander, she was the daughter of Walter H. and Minnie (Krug) Boese. ELLINWOOD - Reinder Carl Ringwald, 92, died on June 22, 2015, in Great Bend. Born June 19, 1923, in rural Rice County he was the son of Reinder W. and Arrendiena (Soeken) Ringwald. On May 18, 1952, he married Edna Claudine Ewalt in Great Bend. She survives. A lifetime resident of rural Rice County and Ellinwood, he was a farmer/stockman until his retirement in 2010.

Ellen Louise Berry, 82, passed away June 16, 2015, at Hays Medical Center. Born April 30, 1933, in Kinsley, she was the daughter of Leslie Clarence and Martha (Amrine) Mack. On Jan. 6, 1951, she married Robert Clyde Berry in Larned. She was a Licensed Mental Health Technician retiring after 32 years at Larned State Hospital. HUGOTON - Dolores Nadine (George) Foltz, 86, died on June 19, 2015, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton. Born Dec. 13, 1928, in Anthony, she was the daughter of Audra and Bernice (Feely) George. Chiefs fall in semifinals to Buhler

McPHERSON- The Great Bend Chiefs dropped their semifinal game to Buhler in a 7-0 shutout Sunday at the Hooper Showcase. The Chiefs posted a 3-0 record earlier in the tournament with wins over the Kansas Cannons on Friday and El Dorado and Ark City Saturday. At 12-11 on the season Great Bend will host Dodge City Tuesday in doubleheader action beginning at 6 p.m. at GBSC.

County announces holiday closings for Friday

Barton County business offices, the Health Department and the Records Division of the Sheriff's Office will be closed for the Independence Day Holiday on Friday. The Landfill will be open from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. Friday, and will be closed the remainder of the holiday weekend. Emergency services will be in normal operation on that day.
