Adam Longoria told Venture Corp. coworker Adam Rios that he was attracted to Alicia DeBolt but didn't expect it would lead to anything because she was so young, Rios testified Friday. During the second day of testimony in Barton County District Court, jurors for Longoria's capital murder trial also heard how a Venture employee discovered the burned body of the 14-year-old Great Bend girl on Aug. 24, 2010, and the about the investigation then launched by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

CHASE - Keith R. Nightengale, 71, died March 29 at his residence in Chase. Born June 17, 1940 in Great Bend, he was the son of Vault "Ernie" and Elizabeth Kramer Nightengale. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School. On March 22, 1985 he married Brenda Singleton in Geneseo. A resident of Chase for 27 years, formerly of Great Bend, he was a lifetime oilfield sales representative currently working for Kitco Distribution of Great Bend.
LARNED - Ailsa Myrtle Morgan, 92, died March 28 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Feb. 22, 1920 in Barton County, she was the daughter of George and Etta M. Hopkins Hofmaster. On Dec. 30, 1946 she married William D. Morgan in Great Bend. He died on Oct. 4, 2001. A lifetime Barton and Pawnee County resident, she was a homemaker, bookkeeper and an aide at the Larned State Hospital.

An article from a child development expert at Kansas State University caught my eye this week with some great advice on Christmas gift giving. I wholeheartedly agree with Bronwyn Fees when she says, "the best gift parents can give their children for Christmas may be helping them understand less can be more. Carol Warrick will celebrate his 100th birthday with a Come and Go reception from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Glory Be, 7th and Broadway in Larned. Carol was born on Dec. 25th.
North Central Kansas Technical College (NCK Tech), with campuses in Beloit and Hays, announcse new students who have been accepted into career technical education programs for the 2015-2016 academic year. While applications are accepted until the Fall 2015 semester begins, early admission ensures the student is enrolled in their program of choice. Students are eligible for early admission by submitting their ACT or Compass Test scores and visiting either campus. Those with qualifying test scores submitted by Dec. 1, are immediately accepted into their selected program until the program capacity is met.
The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met on Dec. 12, at Montana Mike's. President Sally O'Connor presided over the meeting. There were 46 members present, along with Superintendent of USD 428, Brad Reed.
