LARNED - Roy "Bill" Connelly, 69, died June 16 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Sept. 17, 1941, in Hutchinson, he was the son of Isom Roy and Elizabeth Williams Connelly. On Feb. 14, 1964, he married Dianne Sue Davis at Atwood. A longtime area resident, he was a printer for 25 years then a Larned Juvenile Justice Authority for 21 years at the Larned State Hospital.
RICHMOND, Texas - Joseph "Joe" Alan Strobel died June 14 in Richmond Texas, under Altus Harbor Hospice Care at the age of 71. He was born March 9, 1940, in Great Bend. He married Dot Shaner on June 3, 1961, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Great Bend. In 1971 Joe graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas. His career started in Lawrence and then led him to Texas, Maryland and Saudi Arabia. His last job before his stroke was with FEMA. He truly loved his job.
ZOOK - Donna Cauble, 74, died June 16 at her home. Born June 25, 1936, in Garden City, she was the daughter of Albert and Stella McFessell Strader. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker and retired interior decorator. On Nov. 22, 1953, she married Ronald Cauble in Larned. He survives.
NEWTON - Paul F. Kelly, 86, died June 15 at his Newton residence. He was born Nov. 13, 1924, in Akron, Ohio, to Lawrence and Odilia (Seegmueller) Kelly. On Dec. 23, 1989, he married Theresa Gerritzen in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The Kansas Division of Emergency Management has submitted a request to FEMA Region VII to request joint Preliminary Damage Assessments be conducted in five additional counties for damages to public infrastructure resulting from storms beginning May 19 and continuing. The counties are Ellis, Hamilton, Morton, Stanton and Washington.

ELLINWOOD - Viola Ann Komarek died March 8 in Topeka. Born on Jan. 6, 1920, in Kansas City, she was the daughter of Homer F. McCready and Minta M. (Pierce) McCready. In 1926, she moved with her parents to Florence. She graduated from Florence High School in 1941 (National Honor Society) and moved to Kansas City where she worked in the office at Folgers Coffee Co. On Dec. 2, 1945, she married Norman Frank Komarek of Ellinwood, in Emporia. They moved to Sterling, where they lived for 13 years, moving to Ellinwood in 1958. ROZEL - Jerome (Joe) A. Sauer, 85, died March 10 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Sept. 8, 1928, in Antonino, he was the son of Anton and Pauline Rupp Sauer. On Nov. 24, 1949, he married Martha L. Arnold at Rozel. She passed away on Sept. 10, 2012. A resident of Rozel, he was a retired farmer and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Shortly after midnight Saturday, Barton County Sheriff's Office deputies seized a substantial quantity of methamphetamine and arrested a former Great Bend man on drug-related charges, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 939 will be hosting a town hall meeting concerning Agent Orange and it's long term effects. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 14, in the Stoffer Lounge, 2nd floor at Fort Hays State University. Specialists from the national headquarters will be presenting new information and study results during the first part of the meeting and then have a question and answer session. They will also be compiling data concerning birth defects and diseases in children and grandchildren of Vietnam veterans.

Emily Dyanne Schuster and Joshua Thomas Lorg were united in marriage on Dec. 6, at the Hotel Phillips in downtown Kansas City in a ceremony officiated by Pastor Nathan Miller of Christ Community Church, Olathe Campus. The bride is the daughter of Paul and Sue Schuster of Lawrence. She is the granddaughter of Ruby Schuster of Garnett and the late Paul Schuster, and the late Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Lilly. The groom is the son of John and Lori Lorg of Olathe. He is the grandson of Ross and Pat Chambliss of Overland Park and Leo Lorg of Wichita.
